What we do

In our investment activities, we depart from a macro-economic analysis. We believe that successful investment depends on understanding the motivations of the people who will buy the goods and services produced by the companies that we invest in, as well as an understanding of the economic forces acting on them.

Since inception, Proventus has carried out more than 80 major investments in a variety of industries and markets. Proventus has been actively involved in companies in different stages to improve long-term profitability and growth. The successful track record in transforming ailing companies includes the restructuring of Kosta Boda, the formation of the Gota group and the turn-around of the Aritmos group including Tretorn and Puma.

Proventus is an independent investment company with own funds exceeding EUR 400 million. In September 2009, Proventus laid the ground for Proventus Capital Partners, a co-investment vehicle through which Proventus invests its own and external funds. Proventus, the Fourth Swedish National Pension Fund (AP4), Swedish insurance company Folksam and an additional 20 investors, including a number of institutions as well as qualified individuals, have funded Proventus Capital Partner with approximately EUR 220 million.

Proventus Capital Partners provides development capital through investments in public corporate bonds, leveraged loans and private corporate loans to mid-sized companies in need for growth and restructuring capital. The key to success in this type of investments is to have the right framework for analyzing the borrower’s ability to repay the debt, coupled with the organization and network to successfully deal with the situation if the borrower is unable to repay. Proventus has over the last ten years invested more than EUR 200 million in corporate loans. We currently have more than ten development capital investments in a variety of industries, markets and stages; an acquisition financing loan to Swedish telecommunications company AllTele and publicly traded high-yield corporate bonds in an Austrian sports equipment company to mention a few examples.

Along with our principal investment direction, Proventus continues to contribute to the development of our equity holdings. Proventus is the principal shareholder of the Swedish toy company BRIO, the fashion and sportswear company J.Lindeberg, Artek, the company that markets the furniture and designs of Alvar Aalto, and Tom Dixon, a contemporary furniture and interiors brand.

In addition to our investment activities, a proportion of our capital is invested in our own asset management operation, primarily in tradable securities and derivatives.

Proventus operates as a part of the wider cultural landscape supporting a variety of activities in dance, drama and art, from personal conviction, rather than philanthropic motives. Proventus is engaged in research through Glasshouse Forum and EcoOcean and in the arts through the cultural institutions Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall, the Jewish Theatre and Batsheva Dance Company.
