"My Grandmother GLADYS" at The Jewish Theatre
February 9, 2010
”My Grandmother GLADYS” is written and performed by Jessica Zandén and directed by Gunilla Röör. Costume Design by Katrin Brännström. Performed at The Jewish Theatre between 20 February and 7 March 2010.
The play is based on a recently discovered diary, written by Jessica Zandén's maternal grandmother exactly 100 years ago. On 5 September 1946, the sculptress and mother of three – Gladys Heyman-Nystroem – committed suicide at the age of 54. 60 years later her granddaughter, the actress Jessica Zandén, receives an unexpected gift – the until then totally unknown handwritten diary from Gladys' youth at the beginning of the previous century.
Jessica Zandén has worked at several theatres, among others Dramaten and Stockholms Stadsteater. She has also made several appearences at The Jewish Theatre where she performed ”Yom Kippur” (”Försoningsdagen”) 1998 and ”Ashes to Ashes” (”Aska”) 1999. Jessica Zandén is also active as a Cognitive Therapist.
Gunilla Röör has worked at The Stockholms Stadsteater since 1986. She has directed a dozen of productions and has been awarded the Guldbaggen award for Best Actress in a Leading Role twice, in 1990 in ”Freud flyttar hemifrån” (Jessica Zandén had a part in the film) and in 1995 in ”Sommaren".
On 1 July 2007 she was appointed Adjunct Professor of Scenic Interpretation Specialising in Film Acting at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg.
Every other Saturday Gunilla Röör broadcasts a radio show entitled ”Röör i P4”, where she discusses different subjects with various guests.
