Tom Dixon presents Multiplex at the Milan Design Week 2011
April 11, 2011
"Multiplex" is a Tom Dixon designed pop-up viewing theatre, broadcasting centre, restaurant, shop and gallery, where you can explore the multifaceted world of Tom Dixon integrated with the cutting edge technology of the BlackBerry PlayBook.
A clear departure from the traditional exhibition booths typical during the Milan Design Week, where the convention is to show single prototypes, the aim is to create up to six working environments all in full use. Visitors experience a trail of sensations created through six hyper real environments. Each section explores ideas of luminosity and technology to include a Science Lab, Hotel Lobby and Viewing Theatre. A Broadcasting Centre updates information daily from all over the fair onto a giant wall of Microtiles.
As part of the real working environments, Tom Dixon brings the award winning chef Stevie Parle from its London home - the Dock Kitchen, Portobello Dock site - to Milan Design Week to create Parlement, a pop up restaurant. Stevie will head up the kitchen cooking wild seasonal food, fresh daily from the food markets in Milan. The food will be influenced by Stevie’s global travels whilst using Italian produce. Each course will be focused on vegetables and wild foods.
Tom Dixon will also launch the new product ETCH in Milan. ETCH is a series of digitally manufactured shades, a candle holder and tower. Made by employing a hi-tech process used to produce electronic products, including circuit boards, the method allows for intricate patterns to be cut directly onto the metal.
