The Cultural Committee of the Jewish Community of Stockholm, Sweden initiated the development of The Jewish Cultural Heritage Foundation. Over the last 25 years, Proventus has placed high value on cultural programming, astute observations, and global awareness. In the main, our corporate activity focuses on investing in companies in need of change and actively developing them.
Proventus’ view is that structural problems in the Western world will lead to substantial changes in the coming years. An economy built increasingly on trade imbalances, debt and low interest rates, upcoming demographic changes and mounting anti-democratic tendencies all threaten the foundation of Western life as we know it. In the case of Europe, the inability to integrate new Europeans and to create new jobs in the wake of outsourcing manufacturing poses the most serious challenges. Our knowledge of long term issues and our engagement in culture are, not least in this situation, a natural and integrated part of our business activities.
Culture Without Borders was a year-long project lasting from August 15th, 2005 to August 14th, 2006. Built upon European cultural cooperation, it received the support of the European Union’s Culture 2000 programme and the Swedish National Council for Cultural Affairs. The participating partners included the Jewish Community of Stockholm, the Jewish Museum in Berlin, Fondation du Judaisme Francais in Paris, the Jewish Museum in Prague, and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw.
