Artek founder Maire Gullichsen 100 years
October 10, 2007
2007 is also the centennial of Maire Gullichsen. In 1935 she founded Artek together with Aino and Alvar Aalto and Nils-Gustav Hahl. She was the most long-lived of the four, and built a strong foundation for Artek's future.
Artek will honour this legacy by opening a jubilee exhibition "Kauneutta Arkeen - Beauty of Everyday" conceived by Helena Woirhaye, art historian, and by Kirsi Gullichsen, architect.
Maire introduced modern and abstract art in Finland, and she was the founder of the Free Art School in Helsinki. The exhibition seeks to shed light on Maire Gullichsen's ideas, activities and achievements in the fields of ethics, aesthetics, democracy and of the international modernist movement which Artek and its founders were involved in.
The exhibition will be open from October 10 to November 10, 2007 at Artek Esplanade Shop, Eteläesplanadi 18, FI-00130 Helsinki, Finland.
